To celebrate the launch of Friends with Frank into Mode Sportif, we sat down with head of buying Felicity Brand. We chat about what a typical day looks like in a role as fast-paced as hers, what she looks for when buying Autumn/Winter, and what’s next on her wardrobe wishlist.
Tell us about a typical day in the life as head buyer at Mode Sportif?
Coffee always first! Spinning or a strength workout before I get to work - I find this helps give me a clear head for the day. Once I’m in work mode - truly no day ever really looks the same, which is something I love about my role. I could be out and about visiting our stores to catch up with our retail team, meeting brand partners reviewing collections, or styling on set for our content shoots. When I make it back to my desk, I usually have a quick brunch (avo on toast addict), and then catch up on my emails and with the rest of the head office team. I try to leave work on time so can make it back to take our miniature dachshund for a quick walk, and have an easy dinner with my partner before starting calls with our overseas brand partners in Europe. I like to wind down the day with an Epsom salt bath and the odd glass of vino.
What do you love about winter fashion, and what do you look for when buying for Autumn/Winter?
Being English, I adore winter fashion as I guess it’s what I know best! When buying for Mode Sportif for the season, I tend to focus on ensuring we have the key A/W categories covered for our customers for head-to-toe dressing, and that’s definitely outerwear (of which Friends with Frank is key!) knitwear, denim and boots.
What’s an important lesson you have learned within the past year?
To embrace change, to be flexible, to be empathetic.
Sum up your style in three words…
A little androgynous and minimal but always with an unexpected edge - I love how details such as an exaggerated sleeve or unusual neckline can add element and intrigue to a classic silhouette.
What are your favourites from the Friends with Frank AW21 edit in store at Mode Sportif?
I love the Mimi shearling jacket in cream, as this works so well with a white t-shirt and white denim for a head-to-toe tonal look - which is a classic look for me!
What is the next item on your winter wardrobe Wishlist?
A new pair of chunky winter boots... just don't tell my partner, he thinks I own too many already!
