Photo Diaries: Nina Fitzgerald

Living in Darwin, the city of everlasting summer, means leaning into a curated wardrobe of lightweight neutrals and considered fabrications for Creative Director and Gallerist, Nina Fitzgerald. A proud Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander woman, Nina’s photo diary was shot at Laundry Gallery, a creative space she co-founded; designed to share modern iterations of Indigenous art and culture.

"I’m a born and raised Darwin girl! I really admire the raw and random beauty of both the people and the places up here - a place of diverse contrasts, it’s ridiculous in its randomness and exceptional in its beauty. There’s truly no place as wild or wonderful the world over."

“I recently reimagined a mid 70’s art deco laundromat space into a multi disciplinary gallery in Darwin. Laundry Galley is a fresh + accessible pathway for ancient culture to connect to the modern world. A way to mix past with present to give old stories, new spin.”

“Darwin is an endless summer. I gravitate towards high quality clothes that are effortless but still refined. And never too girly. I have forever worn oversized shirts, relaxed fitting pants and loose dresses in natural fabrics. And increasingly I’m also choosing tailored pieces that are uncomplicated for the every day, and can be dressed up as well.”

“I love neutrals at the moment, then I throw in some statement earrings, pops of colour or pattern for fun. And spontaneity. Spontaneity + fun - always!”
