Photo Diaries: Bobby Clark

Artist, photographer, creative director and everything-in-between, Bobby Clark opens up her studio for an exercise in mark making with her young son, James.

"I always gravitate towards quality. First thing I do is look inside a garment, at the stitch lines. I studied fashion and textiles so appreciate a well crafted piece. Colours are also a big part of selection for me too. Working with colour so much, I become addicted to a certain tone or colour and try find pieces to match the works I’m usually painting. Right now it’s cornflower blue and classic French navy. I think FWF have really nailed the collection’s palette. Muted, but strong."

"Art influences how I dress, because I become obsessed with colour theory and the imagery I collect before creating work. I’ll often have a colour in my mind and start to see it everywhere through life, specs on floors, posters in window, little signs of it dotted all over the place; so I am naturally drawn to replicating palettes with my wardrobe, depending on the research I’m doing or piece I’m working on."

"The best moment of my entire life (beside meeting Steve and the day James was born) was when Jimmy came to the studio and asked to paint. I’ve never been so proud of him. The colours he selected were what I gravitate towards too. It’s funny and so poignant that he has obviously been so observant to the colours we have at home and the ones I show him. It’s second nature to invite him to create with me. I will always encourage creative expression, he will never be discouraged from drawing on walls or furniture at home. To me there is nothing more free than a child’s mind, and I will do everything to encourage it."
