5 Minutes with Kate Bucceri

This week on the FWF Journal, we chat to Kate Bucceri — wife to Jon, mother to her beautiful baby boy Gio, and PR Manager at Tiffany & Co. We sat down with Kate in her new home to chat all things motherhood, where she’s taking style inspiration from this season, and her picks from our AW21 collection.

For those who don’t know you, can you share a little about yourself, your background and what you do?

My name is Kate Bucceri and I am a mother to my beautiful little boy Gio and wife to my husband Jon. I am lucky enough to live in Sydney on the beach and work in PR for Tiffany & Co.

How have you found your recent transition back to work, after being on maternity leave looking after your beautiful son Gio?

Honestly, super tough. Poor Gio has picked up everything from daycare and been sick pretty much straight for three months. In turn I have caught everything, so it’s been challenging. I feel now after a couple of months we are in a better place – but wow it was a lot. Thankfully I have an incredible group of people around me especially my colleagues who have been really understanding and supportive.

What has surprised you most about motherhood?

How much of yourself and your relationship you give. It's all encompassing and your life is forever different. I wouldn’t change a thing, but I now have such different priorities.What does a typical day now look like for you? Do you have any morning rituals that help set you up for the day ahead?

Typical day always starts with a strong cup of coffee in bed. My husband and I have had the same ritual since we met, but now it's with a small child between us. Unfortunately, not as relaxing! After that it’s the mad rush to get out of the door.

Each day is completely different at work, which is why I love my job so much. My days can range from being super glamorous, being at a photoshoot or styling our new collections to planning, pitching, catching up with media to getting down and dirty by packing boxes and cleaning! We are such a tight knit team and are always very hands on – no hierarchy – everyone is always willing to help and go the extra mile. Events are a big component of my job and I am really looking forward to the day they are back in full swing – I really miss seeing the vision come to life. Plus, travel – cannot wait to get back to NY.

How would you describe your personal style? What influences have played a role in shaping your way of dressing?

I would say my style is classic with a 90s influence. I love well-made flattering pieces in simple silhouettes. Each season I am very selective in what I purchase, preferring to steer away from the in the moment pieces and instead building a capsule collection of sorts that will last me seasons to come. This has become more important to me as I have grown older and become more comfortable in my own skin. 

What helps you get dressed in the morning, is there a styling tip or approach to getting dressed that you always look to?

Naturally I start with jewellery! If I feel like wearing something bold, I will pair back my outfit and vice versa if I feel like wearing my everyday pieces, I tend to make a bigger statement with my clothing. I am a firm believer in not holding back, if you want to wear your best piece of jewellery or best shoes one day into work - don’t save them for a better occasion, live in the moment.

What are your must-have winter staples that every woman should have in their wardrobe?

This season I have taken a masculine approach to my wardrobe and am loving wide leg trousers with oversized jumpers tucked in, men’s belts, vests and long coats. Diane Keaton in Annie Hall is forever my style muse for winter.

You’ve been a supporter of Friends with Frank for a couple of years now, what was it that drew you to the brand?

The wearability of the pieces plus the quality and timelessness of the designs. I bought a camel coat three years ago and still wear it today. They are pieces you can invest in and still feel relevant in years to come, which is rare.

If there was one piece you had to select from the our AW21 collection, what would it be and why? 

My favourite piece this season is the wool Thomas Coat in slate grey – it’s the perfect mix of 90s simplicity with masculine tailoring. Loving it with an oversized white shirt, ribbed vest, jeans and loafers.
